ɔkantɔ (work in progress)
ɔkantɔ is a documentary project focused on analyzing the matriarchal society with values that confront those of the Western patriarchal and capitalist societies.
Specifically, we travel to the matriarchal society of the Bijagós archipelago in Guinea Bissau with the composer established in Barcelona for more than 20 years, Mû Mbana, and native from the Bijagos islands. In an intimistic approach we will learn about the current reality of women and verify the existence of different realities from the Western cultures. Mû will return to her native country and guide us on a journey through the islands of the country where political and spiritual power resides in the women. We will attend a wedding, accompany a fisherman on her boat, teach Catalan to children and witness the rise of a new priestess, in this society where women have political and religious power.
